About Me

Waterpix was founded in 2003 by Florida native Jane Axman as a way to convey the beauty of both underwater and topside nature photography.  Jane resides in West Palm Beach, Florida.  Having a limitless passion for nature and a great love for the underwater world led her beneath the oceans surface in 1999 with an open water SCUBA certification, followed by a cavern certification in 2001. Since then she has explored shipwrecks, reefs and caverns throughout Florida.

Ms Axman’s interest in the sea life she encountered while diving allowed her to rekindle an interest in photography inspired in her by her father as a young child.  Using the camera she was now able to capture a sliver of each experience to bring back and share with others.  Macro photography opened a window to the intricate details of the vast reef structures and the numerous inhabitants while wide angle images illustrated the greater picture of how these subjects interact.  While the camera as a tool has allowed her to see her subjects from new and different perspectives, it has also created the desire to share what she was now able to see in order to help people gain a greater interest in the beauty that exists within the ocean.  It is Ms. Axman’s believe that by instilling an appreciation for the beauty of these natural wonders within people, it also builds a desire to save them from the ongoing destruction of our environment occurring every day.

The love of photography did not end at the oceans horizon however, it continued on land as well.   Jane’s South Florida home is a treasure trove of beauty.  Birds, insects, plants, animals and life of all shapes, sizes colors and forms inhabit its fabulous wetlands, preserves and parks.   From the ponds and marshes to mangrove lined estuaries, each unique environment explored is inherently tied to water upon which all life is dependent.

Driven by the beauty and intricacy of nature, Jane believes that her photography touches people on an emotional level and will impress upon them the importance of cherishing and protecting these fragile places.
